With over 30 years experience in education and leadership development, including 12 years of training inspectors and leading Ofsted inspections in schools, I have seen outstanding leadership in action.

We all know the traditional leadership theories but I believe that it is how you apply them in practice that counts and will make the difference in the impact and outcomes you achieve as a leader.

Outstanding leaders need to be experts in emotional intelligence, practitioners in the art of persuasion and masters of motivation, but most of all they need to authentic. I use a simple behavioural metaphor to show that you also need to be authentic to get an animal to trust, respect and want to follow you, i.e. you need to become the pack leader. It is no different if you want to be an effective leader with people.
